Study Timer — Plan Practice, Review and Breaks

A 25-Minute Study Session You Can Try

For a small practice set, spend the first few minutes choosing questions and putting your notes aside. Work through the questions, then leave time within the block to check answers and list anything you missed. This is a planning example; adapt it to the assignment.

Add a task such as Biology: explain cell division from memory and select it as your session target. When the timer finishes, take the planned break and choose whether to retry missed questions, read an explanation or move to another topic.

Choose an Interval for the Activity

The 25/5 preset gives a short work block and pause. The 50/10 preset leaves more time for a longer reading section or writing task. Neither schedule is a promise of better grades or recall.

For a mock exam, use the duration specified by your paper instead of changing its rules to fit a Pomodoro. The timer directory includes minute and hour countdowns. Pause when your activity permits it and take breaks as needed.

Separate Study Technique from Timer Length

The Dunlosky and colleagues review of learning techniques supports practice testing and distributed practice. That evidence does not establish that a specific 25-minute interval or five-minute break is best.

Use a block to test what you remember, check your answers and plan another review on a later day. Keep the review date in your own calendar or task list; this timer does not automatically schedule spaced repetition. See the study methods guide for more context.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use 25-minute or 50-minute study blocks?
Try 25 minutes for a smaller practice set and 50 minutes for a longer activity if it suits you. Review what you understood and completed. These are schedule choices, not established best intervals for learning.
Can I track different subjects?
Yes. Give your tasks subject names or categories, select a task before starting and review local focus history and category breakdowns in Analytics.
Does this timer schedule revision for me?
No. You can organize a study block and record the session, but future review dates must be planned in your own task list or calendar.
Can I use a different duration for a mock exam?
Yes. Choose the duration required by the exam in Preferences or open a matching minute or hour timer. Follow the paper instructions for any breaks.
